The Merry Wives of Windsor

Taking a classic for a wild romp!

In June 2024 Mad King took it's audience on an exciting adventure to Windsor! Windsor, Texas that is! Set in 1979, our successful production of Merry Wives premiered at the Alliance Theater in Trolley Square and featured sword fighting, Star Wars references, confetti cannons, a rodeo, and literally drenching Sir John Falstaff in river water!

This production got MKP nominated for City Weekly's Best Of Utah Awards 2024 for best Theater Company. Additionally, Kami McDonough, Joseph Slupski, Madman Madriaga, Brandwynn Michelle, and Lindsey Jarmon were individually nominated for Best Local Actor for their performances. We owe it to our community, who flooded the poles with nominations and support!

It is with immense pride that I reflect on directing Merry Wives of Windsor. It has been an honor to helm this production and witness the talent of our cast and crew. Their dedication and passion have truly brought Shakespeare's words to life in ways I never imagined. Placing Merry Wives in this time and place was aimed at infusing the production with a sense of nostalgia and sincerity, allowing the show to bring us back to a simpler time. We have put our hearts into this show; the set design, costumes, and music choices give us that old time rock-'n'-roll feel. Windsor, Texas 1979 is getting a little Bardic inspiration, thanks to the incredible talents of our cast. I want to extend my deepest thanks to the production crew for their tireless efforts behind the scenes. Without their hard work and dedication, none of this would have been possible. From set design to costumes, lighting to sound, every detail has been carefully crafted to transport our audience into the world we’ve created for Merry Wives. Thank you for everything you do. I especially want to express my deep appreciation for my assistant director. Her experience and feedback have been invaluable keeping me grounded. Her dedication and support have been instrumental in shaping the vision of this production. Lastly, I extend my heartfelt thanks to our audience for joining us on this journey. None of this would be possible without your support. Thank you so much for coming to the show! ” - Conor Thompson - Director's note
